Freedom!

Hi there!

Long time no blog! I guess while I was writing my thesis the last thing I wanted to do was sit at my computer and write some more. Well, I come bearing good news: on Thursday I submitted my thesis!

There is over a month before I will have my viva, where I have to meet my examiners to defend my work. You would think I would feel completely liberated and relaxed now right? That was certainly how I expected to feel! Alas, that is not the case. In fact I felt more panicked yesterday than I have done in a long time! While I was writing I made sure to suppress all worries concerning finding a job, money, going to America, but unfortunately over the last couple of days these things have hit me with a vengeance. And of course now that I have so much time on my hands, I can easily spend a lot of time "thinking", and that is not necessarily a good thing.

So it turns out that this is a very confusing time! It has also been pointed out to me that I have been studying for the last twenty years, and I always had the next thing lined up. Straight from school to uni, uni to PhD. I have never had a career plan. Up until now this hasn't been a problem. In fact it is still not a problem. It means my options are open. I must keep reminding myself of these things.

And now I need to find some stuff to do to stop myself from spending the next month "thinking". I have made a list, which I turned into a mind-map, with colours, in the hope I would find it more inspiring! I'm a gal who knows how to have a good time, am I right?! hehe! I have some trips and projects up my sleeve. But I'm open to suggestions! Hopefully having more time should mean more blogging!

If you've taken the time to sit and read this, please please do leave a comment. What would you do if you had a month to fill? How do you think I should entertain myself over the next month?

  2. Learn a musical instrument, that's always a skill for life. Otherwise forget getting a job and just start your own company to create your own job, a multinational company in fact which means that you must go to America to head up operations over there, um some kind of online guiding store? Or become an author, you read loads and have just written a massive book so fiction must be easier, right??(just think of the book Yas got Kate).

P.s I'm so proud of you handing in your thesis and have slight thesis envy.

    1. ooo all good ideas Em! I would love to learn a musical instrument, although it might be restricted to what's on hand due to money issues. Maybe I should have a go at Dr fiance's guitar!

Your thesis will be done soon, not long now :)

  3. Congrats on finishing your thesis! As for things to do...walking round your house? I've been using this recently (http://www.walkmag.co.uk/walks/) may be some places you haven't explored near you? Or visiting lemons...you're always welcome :) and if you come on musical weekend we can do fun stuff then.

    1. Thanks Yas! I thought at first you were suggesting I wander around inside my house! hehe! but walking is a good idea. I'm afraid I'll probably have to leave Lemon visiting until I come to Cardiff for my viva, trying to save £s. Good luck with the musical!
